Swedish Lapland

Day 01 Arrival in Helsinki

Arrival in Helsinki. Private transfer to the hotel. The afternoon is at leisure to explore Helsinki on your own. Dinner and overnight stay in Helsinki.

DAY 02 Helsinki – Tallink Silja Line to Stockholm

After breakfast go on a sightseeing tour of Helsinki (SIC) during which you will see the historical centre and the diplomatic quarters, the Presidential Palace, the City Hall, the Parliament Buildings, the Finlandia Hall and the Opera House. Stop at Senate Square, the Sibelius Monument and at the Temppeliaukio Church in the rocks. The tour ends in the city centre in the early afternoon, in time to board the Tallink Silja Line ship for the crossing to Stockholm. Enjoy a Scandinavian buffet dinner on the ship. After dinner you can dance the night away in the nightclub, linger in the various shops, or enjoy the scenery. Accommodation on board in comfortable cabins.

Day 03 Stockholm

EEnjoy a sumptuous Scandinavian breakfast buffet before arriving in Stockholm, but make sure to be out on deck as the ship sails into the beautiful Stockholm harbour. With its 24 000 islands, the Stockholm archipelago is quite unique. Around 9.30 a.m. you dock in Stockholm, the Swedish capital. Disembark and go to your hotel to check in. Later go for a sightseeing tour (SIC). Stockholm is often called the “Beauty on Water” being built on 14 islands. See the City Hall (outside), constructed in the National Romantic style where each year on December 10th the Nobel price banquette takes “Beauty on Water” being built on 14 islands. The Old Town is in direct contrast with today’s modern city centre. The balance of your day is free to do some exploring on your own. Overnight stay in Stockholm.

DAY 04 Stockholm

All day at leisure to explore Stockholm on your own. You have time to pay a visit to the Vasa ship museum to see the warship Vasa – the only remaining, intact 17th century ship in the world or take a cruise to Drottningholm, the Royal Palace. Overnight stay in Stockholm

DAY 05 Stockholm - Kiruna

After breakfast go to the airport to board a flight to Kiruna in Swedish Lapland. The summer in Lapland is intense. The sun sparks to life and burns for 100 days and nights without setting, melting snow and ice and transforming the countryside into a vibrant green. The nights are as bright as the days. Here you can experience the Midnight Sun! Kiruna is a widespread municipality, famous for its iron ore mines isolated in one of the last wildernesses in Europe. There is a lot to see and to do in Kiruna. For example you can make an underground tour in the old mines or join an excursion to the Esrange space centre. Dinner and overnight stay in Kiruna.

DAY 06 Kiruna

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. Today we suggest that you take a tour to Jukkasjärvi, situated only about 20 km from Kiruna. Still today you can feel the atmosphere from ancient times when this village was still a sámi meeting point. In Jukkasjärvi don’t miss to visit ICEHOTEL Productions ice factory, where next winter’s ICEHOTEL is waiting in the form of thousands of blocks of crystal clear ice. When the doors glide open, the cold hits you in your face. Just like ICEHOTEL itself, the ice factory remains at a constant temperature of minus 5°C. Guided tours are arranged daily at ICEHOTEL Productions during summer. Dinner and overnight stay in Kiruna.

DAY 07 Kiruna - Jokkmokk

In the morning you go by public bus to Jokkmokk. Jokkmokk is situated right on the Arctic Circle. In this area are several national parks and a number of nature reserves like Sarek, Padjelanta, Stora Sjöfallet and Muddus. The whole area is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. From Jokkmokk you can participate in organized tour to Vuollerim. "Vuollerim 6000 year" is an archaeological open-air museum illustrating the early prehistory of Lapland. Dinner and overnight stay in Jokkmokk.

DAY 08 Jokkmokk - Luleå

In the morning travel by public bus to Luleå. From Luleå you can take a guided tour to Gammelstad. Gammelstad Church Town, listed on the UNESCO´s World Heritage List is an outstanding example of a northern Scandinavian church town. More than 400 cottages earlier used on Sundays and during major religious festivals and markets are grouped around the late medieval stone church. Dinner and overnight stay in Luleå.

DAY 09 Luleå - Gothenburg

Today we travel by air to Gothenburg, Sweden’s second largest city. Gothenburg is famous for being Sweden's most friendly city. Arrive in Gothenburg in the afternoon with time to stroll along the main-street the Avenue with its many restaurants and cafés. For those interested in museums we can recommend the Art museum, the City museum and Universeum the new museum of science, the museum of World Heritage and the Maritime centre, the world's largest floating ship-museum. Overnight stay in Gothenburg.

DAY 10 Gothenburg - Copenhagen

After a good night’s sleep go on a sightseeing tour by bus or by boat. Later board a train that will take you along the Swedish west coast to Malmö in the south from where you will cross over the long Öresund Bridge to Copenhagen in Denmark. The bridge is one of Europe’s largest constructions and consists of an 8 km long bridge, a 4 km artificial island and a 4 km long tunnel. Copenhagen’s one-thousand-year history has been written by ambitious kings, inspiring artists and celebrated designers as is evident in its historical buildings, ancient streets, dozens of world-class museums and galleries. After checking in to your centrally located hotel, go on a sightseeing tour of this delightful city. Some of the fascinating sites include the new harbour of Nyhavn, the Royal Palace Amalienborg, the Gefion fountain and the wistful Little Mermaid. The rest of the afternoon is free to browse through the many fine shops throughout the city. Overnight stay in Copenhagen

DAY 11 Copenhagen – travel home
